creative biz series: Anita Siek, founder of Wordfetti

Todays Creative business series interview is with the uber smart and hilarious Anita Siek of Wordfetti. Anita is part of my Owners Collective tribe and is such an inspiration. She started her business Wordfetti (how good is the name alone!) less than a year ago and is absolutely killing it! Coming from a corporate background as a lawyer, Anita took a huge leap of faith by giving up the comfort of that bi-weekly pay-check and it has totally paid off (get it?!). Not only is she a word wizard, this lady is as determined as they come and I for one just love watching her journey. Without further ado, lets dive in and learn more about the Wordfetti journey.

Tell us what you are up to today?

Oooo! Literally today? I woke up. Played with my doggos. Came into the city. Chai’d. Walked around the city. Popped onto a client call. Walked over the bridge to Southbank. Worked by the water at the park. Popped onto another client call. Emails. And worked some more. Had some food. Sipped on some more Chai, and now filling out this Questionnaire! It’s been a good day!

What do you LOVE about your business?

The best bit would have to the opportunity to meet and chat to so many great humans. And as part of that comes the honour and the privilege to hear my client’s stories and their journey as well!

What are your daily habits to keep you on track for world domination?

Surrounding myself with great people. Reading (via audible). Podcasts!

What has been your biggest business challenge to date and how have you overcome it?

Definitely the whole “doing everything on your own” thing. I think as business owners, especially when you are new, and are starting out – there really is no other option. You’re the admin assistant, the creative mastermind, the accountant, the bookkeeper, the social media manager, and project manager as well as the marketing guru. I overcame that by bringing on board a few Wordy superstars to join the Wordfetti train. Investing in an accountant as well as an Admin superstar to help me alleviate some of the admin and systems nitty gritties!

If you could pick just one thing that has contributed to your success to date, what has it been?

Perseverance. I never see things as a failure. It’s always a lesson!

If you could only work 2 hours per week ‘on’ your business (ie growing the business, not client work) what would you do to get the most results?

Great question! Create resources that help people see the power of words, and help them get better at mastering their own content and connect and chat to my audience as much as I can and get a really good diverse view of what their content struggles are.

What is your go-to for getting a dose of inspiration?

Podcasts. I’m a sucker for Gary Vee in particular!

What is your favourite quote that gets you fired up?

Doing the unrealistic is easier than doing the realistic. It’s lonely at the top. 99% of the world is convinced they are incapable of achieving great things, so they aim for mediocre. Therefore, competition is fiercest for ‘realistic’ goals.

-Tim Ferris

If you could give budding entrepreneurs one piece of advice, what would it be?

Don’t start your own business if you’re just doing it for the money. That always comes after. Oh. And don’t do it thinking you get to relax all the time. Because if anything, you’ll probably have to work twice as hard. (#Sorry #justbeinghonest)

Do it because you are 150% passionate about what you do. Because you love it so much that even if things go wrong (and it will) you will not let anything get in the way of you reaching your goals.
